my first lesson: Border Toxics

Y.O.U. School
Educational Standards
12.6 Students analyze issues of international trade and explain how the U.S. economy affects, and is affected by, economic forces beyond its borders.

Standard 9 The student will know how to identify products, services, and information hat may be helpful or harmful to his or her health.

"I learned about pollutants about NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). I learned that the people working in maquiladoras are women between the ages of 16 and 28..."

"...women that work in maquiladoras get their rights violated..."

"What I learned was how pollution is affecting all the nation...I also learned about NAFTA."

"...people work for cheap maquiladroas and get $4.80 per day. Maquiladora polute the environment and harm ladies that are pregnant..."

"...Chemicals are dangerous for humans and animals"

"...I learned that maquiladoras offer many jobs for the mexican people but they also get their cities polluted by the toxic waste from factories."

"What I learned in this activity is alot of information that is happening in TJ about the air and water being polluted . What I didn't like was that the workers get payed $4.80 per day."
